Arquitetura Contemporânea/Contemporary Architecture – Bélgica/Belgium
Import Export Architecture tem sede na Antuérpia. O escritório foi fundado em 1999 para participar de competição para habitações sociais na cidade de Gent – Bélgica.
Os arquitetos que dirigem o escritório são Oscar Rommens e Joris Van Reusel. Ambos estudaram arquitetura em Gent, no Hoger Architectuur Instituut Sint-Lukas e fizeram pós-graduação em Projeto Urbano no Archeworks de Chicago, USA. Ambos são atualmente professores, Rommers na Deft University of Technology – Holanda, e Reusel na Sint-LukasaKademie, em Gent.
Ainda pensando nas propostas que vão surgindo em vários países, de revitalização de edifícios em áreas históricas com uso de materiais, volumetria e composição de fachadas que não estão presas a manutenção de uma única legibilidade da paisagem urbana, selecionei alguns projetos, que a mim fazem pensar.
Import Export Architecture has its headquarters in Antwerp. The office was founded in 1999 for participation in a social-dwelling idea competition in Gent – Belgium.
Oscar Rommens and Joris Van Reusel are the office heads, both of them undergraduate in Architecture at Hoger Architectuur Instituut Sint-Lukas. They have a Urban Design postgraduate degree from Archeworks in Chicago, US, and also both of them are professors, Rommers at Deft University of Technology – Netherlands, and Reusel at Sint-Lukasakademie in Gent.
I posted that because I’m already thinking in new ideas born in several countries of urban renewal in historic cities centers, which use materials, highs e facade composition really different from the local old buildings. This make me think because major of the rules of preservation heritage have prohibited this kind of design.

Fragile Lab (2005-2006)
Um pequeno edifício foi adaptado para um programa complexo, compreendendo local de armazenagém no subsolo, showroom no térreo, escritório no 1º andar e apartamento duplex nos 2º e 3º andares.
A small building was replaced and made space for a complex new programme: storage -1, showroom on the ground floor, office on +1 and a duplex apartment on the +2 and +3 floor level.
Ter Pitte (2004)
Duas casas geminadas, com tipologias diferentes – casa térrea e um apartamento triplex, foram reformadas resultando em 6 casas muito diferentes entre si. Elas se localizam no centro da cidade.
A grouped-dwelling houses, varying on typologies, from ground floor patio dwellings to triplex-penhouse apartment, resulted in a design for 6 very diverse dwellings. The dwellings are in the inner city.
JFT Part 2 (2003-2005)
Um conjunto de casas do século 19, localizadas no anel central de Antuérpia tinham sido usadas para comércio e estavam abandonadas. O fundo das casas, terraceamentos, paredes internas e fachadas trazeiras estavam em péssimo estado e foram derrubados.
Os edifícios se transformaram em 4 apartamentos com jardim e/ou terraceamentos de modo a se conseguir o máximo de luz natural, e foram criados parapeitos para garantir a necessária privacidade.
An oversized houses “for rent” in the 19th century inner-city belt of Antwerp has been neglected and used as a commercial property. Large sections of the back-building, terraces and rear facade as well as the inner walls were near colapse. Large portions of the back building have been demolished nd the building was rebuilt in 4 apartments with gardens and/or terraces with maximum light, in which the parapet is used to provide the needed privacy.
