I intend to start here some posts about the great European design schools. I start with the Germany design, that offered us beautiful things, objects of desire until now. The beginning is a period known as Biedermeier Restoration, between 1820 and 1848.
Biedermeier, that in 1850 was a satiric publication ‘s character , which the new generation intend to ridicule the petit bourgeois spirit of the old generation and the contemporary one, became a word used in the cultural Germany history to refer, in the German language spoken region, to the bourgeois culture in the first half of the 19 Century.
Understanding and simple shapes are characteristics of the objects of this time. The furniture, simple, are almost of them made with light wood. The porcelain is white and have little decoration, the glass has a discreet grace. In architecture preponderates classicism style. A imminent person, active in several areas, was Karl Friedrich Schinkel. He was urban designer, architect, monument restorer, painter and scenographer, decorator and designer of decoration pieces.
